NOVEMBER 2nd - Dia De Los Muertos Festival @ The Where House - 2510 Hemphill St. FTW TX -$15 10-2am. Paint.
We are honored to be warming up the stage for this unique and glorious event: http://www.myspace.com/theskinandbonesdrumcult A Gathering of the in-complacent, wild-eyed, malcontent! SKIN & BONES DRUM CULT Gatherings are of rare occurance, reminescent of a dark, mysterious, sensual and passionate enlivening dream filled with heavy tribal rhythms, driving bass, electronics, horns, native flutes and transcendental ambient vocals. An improvisational outrageous unthinkable co llective of synchronistic opposites. Come. "The Where House had a healthy crowd when I arrived, and there was a slightly creepy vibe to the place. Off to the left of the stage was an altar with cow bones and candles for people to light in honor of loved ones who have passed (my wife lit a candle for her mother). The stage was decked out in flowers and bathed in red lights. Throw in nine guys in smiling white masks, and you've got the stuff of a hallucinogenic-fueled nightmare. Fortunately, the energy of the band -- and indeed of the Where House crowd -- was nothing short of amazing. The music was heavily improvised, starting with eerie synths, sampled voices, violin and tribal drumbeats. One of the Fawkes alternately sang from a mysterious book, drummed and played native flutes, while another Fawkes played an astounding upright and electric bass, then took a turn playing 5-gallon bucket drums. Still another offered up excellent guitar work. Meanwhile, the ethereal violin-playing Fawkes bound together all the superb drum work that the other Fawkeses were relentlessly pounding out. With only a short break, the band played from 10 p.m. to well after 2:30 a.m. No liquor license means no shutdown time. When I finally left, the band was still jumping, and the crowd was still dancing. The only drawback to Skin and Bones Drum Cult: It's more of an event than a band. The players only get together when they feel like it, which hasn't been all that often. So if you stumble upon an opportunity to see them, take advantage -- you might not get another chance." ~DFW.com~ "The Skin and Bones Drum Cult is hands-down one of the most talented groups I have had the pleasure of seeing live from the Fort Worth music scene. And you MUST see them live, because mechanical recordings cannot do them justice. There is something innate, distinctively primal and aluring about their sound. This may be one of the most over-looked bands of all time." ~An impassioned Soul~
